It’s the End of the Road for “Empire”

The empire has fallen.

Fox has announced that the upcoming season of Empire will be its last.

The Lee Daniels production has been on our screens since 2015, enveloping us in all the drama that goes on behind the scenes at a record label.

Although Empire was renewed for a sixth season last month, the network has now confirmed that it will be its swan song.

“We’re turning the final season of Empire into a large television event,” said Fox CEO Charlie Collier. “We are going out guns-a-blazing. Six years is a pretty remarkable run for a drama series.”

The show has won much praise and multiple awards for its lead actress Taraji P. Henson, who portrayed badass Cookie Lyon.

The final season is also expected to air on a new night — switching from Mondays to Tuesdays — when it premieres next year.
