Netflix gave us more movies and TV shows to get us through 2020 than we can count, and the Golden Globe voters were obviously paying attention. The list of nominations for this award ceremony is in, and it was topped by the Netflix original movie Mank and the hit royal series The Crown.
David Fincher’s black and white drama Mank was inspired by the making of the iconic film Citizen Kane, and it’s in the running for six awards, including the best motion picture – drama. The list of nominees in this category also includes The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Nomadland, and Promising Young Woman. The comedy field is much more colorful, and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is the only movie to establish itself as a major contender with three nods.
Netflix was also leading the way in the TV categories, with The Crown topping the list of nominations with six nods. The Canadian comedy series Schitt’s Creek, which experienced a bump in popularity thanks to Netflix, came in second with five nominations, while Ozark and The Undoing were right behind with four.
The winners of the 2021 Golden Globe Awards will be announced on February 28th, during a ceremony hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
