Gillian Anderson Originally Said No to “Sex Education”

Now that the second season of Sex Education has debated on Netflix, we learn that Gillian Anderson didn’t take to the series at first.

Anderson, who stars as sex therapist Jean Milburn on the critically acclaimed British comedy-drama, told Entertainment Weekly that after she first read the script, she actually put it in the garbage.

“I read a teeny bit of the first episode and threw it in the bin. Initially I felt that it was too on the nose,” she said.

But then Anderson’s real-life partner got involved.

“Pete essentially took it out the bin and read it and loved it, and said, ‘You’re mad. This will be really good for you to do.’ I read it and I thought it was hilarious.” And does he take credit for the success? “He does keep reminding me that the success of it is all down to him,” Anderson added with a laugh.

Anderson’s next project is season four of The Crown as British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.
