The D23 Expo panel dedicated to Disney Studios shed some new light about the upcoming and greatly anticipated Frozen 2 film.

With $1.2 billion in the box office, critical acclaim and songs that are etched into the minds of many, 2013’s Frozen is one of Disney’s greatest hits, and it makes sense the studios will not let it go.

Jennifer Lee, the Chief Creative Officer at Disney Animation who wrote and co-directed the first film, and her co-director Chriss Buck revealed some plot lines from the new movie, a new song and some new faces to the cast.

According to the directors, the new movie will explore more in depth the origins of Elsa’s powers and also delve into the fate of the sisters’ parents.

Queen Iduna, Anna and Elsa’s mother, will be played by Evan Rachel Wood and a new character called Lieutenant Matthias will be played by Sterling K. Brown.

The directors have also revealed a new song: “Into the Unknown” – a ballad led by Idina Menzel, which is set to be the sequel’s answer to the original’s “Let it Go.”
