Ruby Rose debuts as the CW hero.

Fans of Rose and the iconic DC Comics superhero were treated to a first look image of the actress as Batwoman.

The CW and producers Warner Bros. TV unveiled the first image of Rose clad in the iconic black-and-white caped catsuit complete with Kate Kane’s signature red locks and of course the bat insignia emblazoned on her chest. In charge of costume design is award-winning designer Colleen Atwood (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl).

The superhero will make her first appearance in the DC crossover event this December. The standalone feature is produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter. The official logline for Batwoman reads:

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

As the first out actress to star as the first gay lead superhero, Ross suffered social media backlash to her casting. After celebrating her new role in August, writing on Instagram, “The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on TV and felt alone and different,” the actress quit social media.

The three-night DC crossover event kicks off Sunday, December 9.
