One of TV’s most popular characters is returning to screens in a new series.

Christopher Meloni will be reprising his role as Elliot Staber, the tough detective who’s the other half of the Oliva Benson (Mariska Hargitay) duo in Law & Order: SVU. The role earned him an Emmy nomination for lead actor in a drama series in 2006.

Meloni starred in SVU for 12 seasons and he left back in 2011. In Season 13 of the series, it was revealed that Stabler finally retired from the police force.

In the new NBC series, which also hails from Dick Wolf, the creator of the Law & Order franchise, Stabler heads the organized crime division of the NYPD. The series has been given a 13-episode order.

After leaving SVU in 2011, Meloni starred in Oz, Happy!, Surviving Jack, and Underground. He also appeared in episodes of Pose, True Blood, The Handmaid’s Tale, and the Harley Quinn animated series.
