“Deadwood” Movie Is Finally Happening

After being asked the ‘will there be a Deadwood follow-up’ for years, HBO execs finally answered in the affirmative. 

A wrap-up movie for the abruptly canceled series has been rumored for years.

The news came staring from HBO programming president Casey Bloys who confirmed Wednesday that the long-gestating project has finally been given the green light. Bloys announced that news during the summer Television Critics Association press tour.

“I can finally, finally confirm we are greenlit on the Deadwood movie,” he said. “It will shoot in October.” He also spoke about the production’s “logistical nightmare,” that is assembling the cast back together, including star Timothy Olyphant, Ian McShane and Molly Parker. 

The series ran from 2004 to 2006 took place in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota, and followed the community’s growth from a camp to a town.
