The renowned actor and director is circling Ballad Of Richard Jewell for Fox/Disney.

According to multiple sources, Eastwood is in talks to direct the drama that tells the story of a security guard whose life gets turned upside down after media reports identified him as a possible suspect in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics bombing.

Jewell went from hero to suspect after he reported on the knapsack bomb at the 1996 Summer Games. Despite his report and the fact he helped clear bystanders, he found himself as the main suspect in a terrorism plot. Jewell was eventually cleared. He died in 2007 of a heart attack at the age of 44.

The script was penned by Billy Ray. Should Eastwood join the project, it’ll be the first feature film he has directed since 2008’s Changeling.

The film has been long in development and over the years actors including Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio were attached to star.

Deadline was first to report the news.
