Cate Blanchett and Yvonne Strahovski are about to find themselves without a state.

The Australian actresses have signed on to star in a new series entitled Stateless.

The House with a Clock in its Walls star will also producer the show along with her husband Andrew Upton.

Blanchett co-created the show, which will focus on four strangers who are stuck in an immigration detention center in the Australian desert. The characters have been identified as a flight attendant escaping a suburban cult, an Afghan refugee fleeing persecution, a young Australian father escaping a dead-end job and a bureaucrat caught up in a national scandal.

Dominic West has also been attached to the project, which is set to begin production in Adelaide next month.

“Whilst this story centres on Australia, the dilemmas that it explores through four absorbing characters will resonate globally: the desire for personal freedom, the need for social stability, an escalating lack of faith in the political process and the deeply unsettling impact this has on individual lives,” Blanchett said.

Stateless will have 6 episodes and be distributed through NBC.
