Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Biopic Gets a Release Date

The Heartbreak Hotel will be open for business in two years.

After finally selecting his leading man, Baz Luhrmann has now announced the release date for his upcoming Elvis Presley biopic.

No less than five actors auditioned for the chance to step into the singer-actor’s blue suede shoes, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Miles Teller, Austin Butler, Harry Styles, and Ansel Elgort.

Following several screentests, Luhrmann chose Austin Butler to star alongside Tom Hanks who will play Elvis’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

The biopic is set to film in The Great Gatsby director’s native country of Australia and will be his first big screen production since that film in 2013.

Although the Elvis film does not yet have a title, Paramount has scheduled its release date as October 1st, 2021, with filming expected to begin at the beginning of 2020.
