“I love you. You love me. We’re getting a new film all about Barney!”

The famous purple dinosaur who shaped many childhoods is coming to the big screen in a new movie produced by Daniel Kaluuya.

First premiering on PBS in 1992, Barney & Friends was the starting block for many now-famous actresses including Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Debbie Ryan.

The upcoming live-action feature will be produced by the Black Panther actor through his production company, 59%, though no studio has been attached as yet.

“Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood,” said Kaluuya. “We’re excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of ‘I love you, you love me’ can stand the test of time.”

The purple and green Tyrannosaurus rex is part of the Mattel family, with Mattel Films’ Robbie Brenner saying, “Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to Barney that will surprise audiences and subvert expectation. The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today’s kids.”

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for all to celebrate!
