The answer to what could keep Alex Trebek away from Jeopardy is not “cancer.”

Filming on the 36th season of the game show is underway and the 79-year-old is once again at the helm as host, despite having undergone treatment for pancreatic cancer over the last year.

Trebek was diagnosed with a Stage 4 version of the disease in March, with statistics stating that only 9% of those diagnosed have a survival rate of 5 years.

“I’ve gone through a lot of chemotherapy and thankfully that is now over,” he said in a promotional video posted on the social media accounts for Jeopardy! “I’m on the mend and that’s all I can hope for right now. We have some exciting things coming up and I can’t wait to share them with you all. Let me tell you, it’s gonna be a good year.”

Footage from the taping showed Trebek maintaining his wit, stating that he would like Golden Girls actress Betty White to play him in a biopic.
