]]>According to multiple reports, Perry is bringing back Madea from retirement for a new Netflix movie. The 12th installment in the film franchise will be titled A Madea Homecoming and is currently scheduled for release in 2022.
Besides starring in the movie, Perry will also serve as a writer and director. The filming is expected to begin soon in Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, but the plot details are still being kept under wraps.
A Madea Homecoming represents a continuation of Perry’s fruitful relationship with Netflix. His other projects for the streamer include the thriller A Fall from Grace and the upcoming drama A Jazzman’s Blues.
Perry first introduced Madea in the 2000’s play I Can Do Bad All By Myself. He based the character on his mom and aunt and described it as a “tough, elderly African-American woman.” Three more plays followed before the character made its way on the big screen in Diary of a Mad Black Woman.
Following the success of the first movie, 10 sequels were produced and collectively earned more than $1 billion at the box office. The character also made a number of guest appearances on television in shows like House of Payn and Love Thy Neighbor.

]]>A third installment of Whoopi Goldberg’s most iconic film could be happening. According to Entertainment Tonight, the 62-year-old actress is still very much interested in making Sister Act 3.
The original film about a lounge singer-turned-nun hit our screens in 1992 and was a huge success. It was followed by a sequel a year later.
Whoopi Goldberg and Tyler Perry both appeared on Andy Cohen’s talk show Watch What Happens Live this week to promote Perry’s Nobody’s Fool starring Goldberg and Tiffany Haddish. Perry, it seems is already thinking of a joint Goldberg — Haddish sequel, “The two of them in Sister Act, that should happen. Let’s make it happen,” he insisted.
Cohen persisted, suggesting that Perry take a more active role in the potential sequel. “Can’t you buy the rights to Sister Act?” he asked the producer. “That’s exactly what I was thinking. I was sitting here thinking, Tiffany Haddish, Whoopi in Sister Act,” Perry said. “We’ll go get ‘em!”
