She posted a video counting to three, while the videos from The Princess Diaries played in between, and captioned it with the words “Back to Genovia.”
Based on Meg Cabot’s hit young adult novel of the same name, The Princess Diaries came out in 2001 and produced a sequel The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement three years later. In addition to Hathaway, the cast of these films also included Julie Andrews, Héctor Elizondo, Heather Matarazzo, Mandy Moore, Caroline Goodall, Robert Schwartzman, and Chris Pine, but they’re yet to confirm their return.
Flora Greeson wrote the script for the third film in the franchise, while Adele Lim (Joy Ride) has been tapped to direct. She’ll also be credited as one of the executive producers along with Hathaway, Naia Cucukov, and Melissa Stack, while Debra Martin Chase is producing.

]]>In 2001, a young, slightly green Anne Hathaway brought to life a young, slightly geeky girl from San Francisco who discovers she is descended from royalty.
Mia Thermopolis was every girl who ever dreamed of being a princess.
The first Princess Diaries film followed the teenager’s journey as she learns that she is the heir to the throne of the small European country.
The sequel, Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, saw Mia having to find a husband in order to reign as Queen of Genovia once her grandmother, played by Julie Andrews, steps down.
15 years after last visiting the fictional royal kingdom, Anne has now given us hope that we will be returning!
Rumours of #3 first began circulating in 2017 when Meg Cabot who penned the novel The Princess Diaries on which the first film was based, revealed that a script for a third film does indeed exist.
Whilst on Watch What Happens Live, Anne confirmed that she and Julie would love to do another movie!
“We all really want it to happen, it’s just we don’t want to do it unless it’s perfect, because we love it just as much as you guys love it. It’s as important to us as it is to you,” she said. “We don’t want to deliver anything until it’s ready, but we’re working on it.”
Shut. Up.
