The movie, which will premiere on July 24th, 2020, has a complicated plot.

“[It’s about an] American journalist based in France [who] creates his magazine. It is more a portrait of this man, of this journalist who fights to write what he wants to write. It’s not a movie about freedom of the press, but when you talk about reporters you also talk about what’s going on in the real world,” Anderson said.

The film’s release date hints at a possible premiere at the 2020 Cannes Film Festival – a festival that Anderson has not participated in since 2012’s Moonrise Kingdom.  His last two films debuted at the Berlin Film Festival.

We finally have an idea about Wes Anderson’s long-awaited upcoming film!

The Grand Budapest Hotel director announced in August last year that he would write and direct a musical film set in France, post-World War II.

Sounds whacky enough for Anderson.

Fox Searchlight has now acquired the worldwide rights to the film, entitled The French Dispatch, and has described it as “a love letter to journalists set in an outpost of an American newspaper in a fictional 20th-century French city that brings to life a collection of stories published in The French Dispatch magazine.”

“We are excited to dive back into the unmistakable and entirely original world of Wes Anderson,” said the chairmen of Fox Searchlight Pictures, Steve Gilula and Nancy Utley, in a statement. “Our collaborations with Wes in the past have been exceptional, and we’re thrilled to be back working with him and the Indian Paintbrush team on The French Dispatch.

Anderson will once again team up with his favorite actors for the film, including Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, Benicio Del Toro, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Timothée Chalamet, Léa Seydoux, Mathieu Amalric, Lyna Khoudri, Stephen Park, and Owen Wilson.

The French Dispatch is expected in 2020.

Wes Anderson is rounding up the gang.

Like many directors (hey, Christopher Nolan and Tim Burton!), The Grand Budapest Hotel filmmaker likes to work with certain actors, meaning they often find themselves cast in many of his movies.

These stars include Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton who have all appeared in a combination of The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonlight Kingdom, and The Isle of Dogs.

The trio will once again be working with the director on his forthcoming film The French Dispatch, and will also be joined by another former collaborator — Saoirse Ronan.

The film has been described as a “love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in 20th-century Paris” and includes three different storylines.

Timothée Chalamet — who has worked with Saoirse Ronan twice before — is also part of the cast, along with Benicio Del Toro and Jefferey Wright.
