The CW’s cancelation streak continues and no show is safe anymore. The Flash is the latest beloved series to fall victim to the network’s ongoing cancelation streak and it will end its run after nine amazing seasons next year.

Despite its enormous success, it was just a matter of time before The Flash got the boot. It joins a long list of legacy shows canceled by the CW in the past few months including Dynasty and Riverdale, but the network made sure to give them the proper send-off that they deserve.

The showrunner Eric Wallace confirmed its cancelation in an official statement and reflected on the unforgettable experience of making The Flash with its phenomenal cast and crew for almost a decade.

“Nine years of saving Central City while taking audiences on an emotional journey full of heart, humor, and spectacle… So many amazing people have given their talents, time, and love to bring this wonderful show to life each week,” said Wallace.

Grant Gustin is set to return as Barry Allan/The Flash after signing a one-year deal with the network a few months ago. The final season will feature 13 episodes and it’s set to premiere on the CW in 2023.

The CW has given early renewals to 13 scripted show, including new shows Batwoman and Nancy Drew.

Also being renewed are All American, Black Lightning, Charmed, DC’S Legends of Tomorrow, Dynasty, The Flash, In the Dark, Legacies, Riverdale, Supergirl and Roswell, New Mexico. The CW renewed In the Dark, Roswell, and Legends of Tomorrow before their current seasons premiered; they are still in production.

Early renewal allows for the network to receive finished scripts before a possible writer’s strike could happen.

“These early orders for next season give our production teams a head start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this also provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for next season,” said CW President Mark Pedowitz.

“We’ve been thrilled with the creative direction of all three new series, and even though we are in the very early stages of our new full stack streaming strategy, which allows viewers to catch up on our new shows from the beginning, we’re already seeing incredibly positive results from our multiplatform viewership for Nancy Drew and Batwoman,” Pedowitz continued.

While in the past he was not sure, now Ezra Miller believes The Flash solo movie is a sure thing.

The actor who played Barry Allen in the DC extended universe told W Korea that The Flash film along with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3 are “absolutely confirmed.”

The Flash has so far appeared in three movies in the DC extended universe: Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad in 2016 and 2017’s Justice League, where he had a more prominent part.

However, recent reports point to some changes in the movie’s crew. Andy Muschietti, who directed IT and IT: Chapter Two, is being considered for the director’s chair. Previously, the movie was set to be directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the Spider-Man: Homecoming screenwriters.

Also reported are plans of writing a new script for the movie. Christina Hodson, who wrote the script for Bumblebee, was tasked with the job.
