Alcock emerged as one of the front-runners for the role of Supergirl earlier this month, and she defeated tough competition in Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly to win this part. This will mark her first major role since she got her big break as the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first season of HBO’s epic fantasy series House of the Dragon.

James Gunn previously said that their version of Supergirl will be unlike anything we’ve seen from this character before.

“We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from, you know, the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip-off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways,” said Gunn, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Alcock will lead her standalone movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but she’s expected to appear in another DC project before flying solo. It’s still unclear if she’ll make a cameo in Superman: Legacy alongside David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.

The trailer also introduces a new villain, Midnight. Played by Jennifer Cheon Garcia, Midnight is released from an alien prison and plans her revenge against the ones responsible for her imprisonment. “There is no hiding from Midnight”, says the “physical manifestation of darkness” before attacking Kara.

The new look of Supergirl includes a new suit which has the power to materialize according to Kara’s will, much like the Iron man suit in the MCU movies.

The official description reads: “Kara (Melissa Benoist) is surprised to find that CatCo has a new owner who has brought in a star reporter. New couples emerge and explore their budding relationships while J’onn J’onzz (David Harewood) receives an unexpected visitor. Jesse Warn directed the episode written by Derek Simon & Nicki Holcomb. With Henry Cavill being cast as the lead in Netflix’s new series, The Witcher, speculation arose as to what would happen to the future of DC’s Superman films of which Henry is the star.

Well, it now appears as though we have our answer. The studio has decided not to make a stand-alone Superman movie for the next few years; switching focus to a Supergirl film as its priority instead, with 21 Jump Street writer, Oren Uziel, working on the screenplay.

An appearance by the Man of Steel in the upcoming Shazam! flick also fell through as a result of scheduling conflicts due to Henry’s starring in Mission: Impossible — Fallout.

As a result, it looks as though the 35-year-old will be hanging up his cape.

Reports have also claimed that Black Panther star, Michael B. Jordan, could be taking on the role of Clark Kent in the future.
