2024 WGA Awards: “The Holdovers” & “American Fiction” Take Top Prizes

This year’s WGA Awards were a long time coming, and the strike-delayed ceremony was finally held this past weekend. The Holdovers and American Fiction dominated movie categories, while Succession, The Bear, and Beef came out victorious in the TV field.

After losing the Oscar for best original screenplay at the Oscars, The Holdovers was finally honored in the same category at the WGA Awards. It was nominated alongside Air, Barbie, May December, and Past Lives, and defeated them all to take the trophy home.

Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction, the winner of the Oscar for best adapted screenplay, won big in the same category at the WGA Awards. It competed against Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, Killers of the Flower Moon, Nyad, and Oppenheimer this time around.

When it comes to the TV categories, the main awards went to three shows that dominated the rest of the award season. Succession, The Bear, and Beef collected trophies for the best drama series, best comedy series, and best limited series, respectively, while The Last of Us was named the best new series.

After being hit by a major delay caused by last year’s writers’ strike, the WGA Awards returned to Los Angeles on April 14.

“Succession” & “The Bear” Win Big at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards

This year’s Primetime Emmy Awards were a long time coming—and they were worth the wait! Monday night’s ceremony was one for the books, and it saw HBO’s Succession and FX’s The Bear walk away with six awards, while Netflix’s Beef was honored with five.

Succession came into the night as the top contender with 14 nods, and it lived up to the hype! In addition to winning the award for outstanding drama series, the final season of HBO’s hit series picked up writing and directing awards for “Connor’s Wedding”, while its stars Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen collected acting prizes.

It was also a big night for the rookie season of the FX culinary dramedy The Bear, which was named the outstanding comedy series. Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri were honored with acting awards for their respective performances, while Christopher Storer won two more Emmys for directing and writing this show.

Netflix’s Beef was also among the top winners of the night, with five trophies, including outstanding limited or anthology series. Steven Yeun and Ali Wong collected acting awards for leading this series, while Lee Sung Jin won two Emmys as its writer and director.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were held on January 15 in Los Angeles, with Anthony Anderson hosting the show for the first time.

“Oppenheimer” Blows Up the 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards With Eight Wins

Oppenheimer came into this year’s awards season as one of the top contenders for all the major awards, and it’s finally taking them home! Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed film knocked it out of the park at the Critics’ Choice Awards and walked away with eight awards.

Oppenheimer was one of the front-runners for best picture, and managed to come out victorious in this category after defeating American Fiction, Barbie, The Color Purple, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, Poor Things, and Saltburn.

This War World II epic also triumphed in seven more categories, starting with best director (Nolan), best supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and best acting ensemble. It also dominated technical categories, winning best cinematography, best editing, best score, and best visual effects.

It was also a great night for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which came into the ceremony with 18 nominations. It ended up winning six awards, starting with best comedy, after beating the likes of American Fiction, Bottoms, The Holdovers, No Hard Feelings, and Poor Things.

As for the TV categories, FX’s The Bear and Netflix’s Beef were the biggest winners of the night with four awards each, starting with the best comedy series and best limited series. The best drama series award went to HBO’s Succession, which won three awards by the end of the night.

The 2024 Critics’ Choice Awards returned to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on January 14, with Chelsea Handler serving as the host.

2024 Golden Globes: “Oppenheimer” Walks Away With Five Trophies

Christopher Nolan has given us one of the best films of the past year with Oppenheimer, and he’s finally getting credit where credit is due. The list of the Golden Globe winners is in, and this World War II epic is leading the way with a total of five wins, followed by HBO’s Succession with four.

Oppenheimer was nominated for eight awards at this year’s ceremony, and it managed to walk away with five. In addition to winning the best motion picture – drama, this acclaimed film also collected trophies for the best director (Christopher Nolan), best original score (Ludwig Göransson), best actor in a motion picture – drama (Cillian Murphy), and best supporting actor in a motion picture (Robert Downey Jr.).

The list of major winners on the motion picture side also included Poor Things with two trophies, including the best motion picture: comedy or musical, along with Barbie, The Holdovers, and Anatomy of a Fall with two wins each.

HBO’s Succession led the way on the TV side, with a total of four wins, including the best drama series. Its stars Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen came out victorious in their respective acting fields, bringing the show’s total win count to four. The Bear and Beef were right behind and managed to walk away with three trophies each.

The 2024 Golden Globes ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California on January 7, with Jo Koy serving as the first-time host.

After a lot of anticipation, the Golden Globe nominations are finally in—and they were worth the wait! After smashing records throughout 2023, Barbie topped the list of movie nominees, while Succession set a major record in the TV field with nine nominations.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie is one of the defining films of 2023, and it will come into this year’s Golden Globes with nine nods. It’s one of the front-runners for the best comedy or musical award, along with Air, American Fiction, The Holdovers, May December, and Poor Things.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is ruling the drama field with a total of eight nominations, including the coveted best drama film. Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Past Lives, and The Zone of Interest are also in the running for this prestigious award.

Succession went out with a bang earlier this year, and its final season is getting credit where credit is due. It made history as the most-nominated TV show at the Golden Globe Awards in a single year, with nine nods, including the best drama series. 2023 Emmy Nominations: “Succession”, “The Last of Us” & “The White Lotus” Lead HBO’s Sweep

In another triumphant display of its excellence, HBO has emerged as the absolute leader at the 2023 Emmy Awards nominations. Its powerhouse dramas Succession, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus captured the hearts of Emmy voters and scored over 20 nods each.

Succession recently ended its run after four seasons, and its final chapter is getting credit where credit is due. It’s one of the main contenders for the best drama series award this year, along with The Last of Us, The White Lotus, AMC’s Better Call Saul, Netflix’s The Crown, HBO’s House of the Dragon, and Showtime’s Yellowjackets.

Succession scored a total of 27 nods, including 14 in the main field, largely thanks to its brilliant ensemble cast. Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Alan Ruck, Alexander Skarsgård, and J. Smith-Cameron all received acting nods in their respective field.

When it comes to comedy categories, Ted Lasso is having another amazing year with a total of 21 nods, including eight in the main field. The competition for the outstanding limited or anthology series will also be tough, but Netflix’s Beef is the main contender right now, with a total of 13 nods, including nine in the main categories.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 18, unless the date ends up being postponed due to the ongoing WGA strike.

2022 Primetime Emmy Awards: “The White Lotus”, “Ted Lasso” & “Succession” Top the List of Winners

Television’s biggest night returned to Los Angles to honor some of the best shows of the past year, and it was one for the books! The White Lotus was the biggest winner at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards with five trophies, closely followed by Ted Lasso and Succession.

Mike White’s anthology series created quite a splash when it premiered on HBO last summer, and it was the expected winner of the award for outstanding limited series. The White Lotus also collected trophies for outstanding supporting actor and actress (Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge) and writing and directing for a limited series (Mike White).

Ted Lasso was the biggest winner in the comedy categories last year, and it replicated its success for the second time. It won a total of four Primetime Emmys—outstanding comedy series, outstanding lead and supporting actor in a comedy series (Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein), and outstanding directing for a comedy series (MJ Delane).

As for Succession, HBO’s satirical drama won its second Emmy for outstanding drama series. It came out victorious in two more categories—outstanding supporting actor in a drama series (Matthew Macfadyen), and outstanding writing for a drama series (Jesse Armstrong).

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 12, with SNL’s Kenan Thompson serving as the first-time host.

The Emmy Awards are coming back to LA this September to celebrate some of the best shows of the past year, and we finally know who’ll be in the running for top awards. The list of nominations is in, with Succession, Ted Lasso, and The White Lotus leading the way.

Succession topped the list of nominations with a total of 25 nods, including 12 for Primetime Emmy Awards. It’s nominated for outstanding drama after winning this award in 2020, but it will have to defeat Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Yellowjackets this time around.

Ted Lasso will have a chance to repeat its success from last year’s Emmys when it won the trophy for outstanding comedy series. It received a total of 20 nods this time around, but it will have a tough competition in Hacks and Only Murders in the Building, with a total of 17 nods each.

When it comes to limited series, it will be a tough competition between The White Lotus and Dopesick. Both shows have been nominated for outstanding limited series and multiple acting awards, but HBO’s anthology series is a clear front-runner with a total of 20 nods.

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards are returning to Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 12 and the host is yet to be announced.

SAG Awards: “CODA”, “Succession” and “Ted Lasso” Take Top Prizes

With the Oscars just a month away, we’ve only got a few ceremonies left, and SAG Awards are the latest to take place. Indie drama CODA, HBO political satire Succession, and Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso won big on Sunday night, taking best ensemble awards in their respective categories.

CODA pulled a major upset and managed to defeat Belfast, Don’t Look Up, The House of Gucci, and King Richard to win the biggest award of the night—the outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. Its star Troy Kotsur was crowned as the best supporting actor.

The list of individual acting winners in the motion picture field also included best actor Will Smith (King Richard), best actress Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), and best-supporting actress Ariana DeBose (West Side Story).

The TV categories brought several expected wins our way, starting with Succession and Ted Lasso winning awards for best ensemble in a drama and comedy series, respectively. Squid Game walked away with three awards, including best actor and actress in a drama (Lee Jung-jae and Jung Ho-Yeon), and best stunt ensemble.

The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards were presented on February 27th at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

2022 Golden Globes: “The Power of the Dog” and “West Side Story” Score Top Awards

This year’s Golden Globes were a private affair, but that didn’t stop the HFPA prom honoring some of the best movies and TV shows of the year. The Power of the Dog and West Side Story topped the list of winners with three awards, while Succession dominated the TV field.

With seven nominations under its belt, The Power of the Dog came into the night as one of the front-runners. It eventually collected a total of three awards—best motion picture — drama, best director (Jane Campion), and best supporting actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee).

When it comes to the comedy or musical field, no other movie came even close to Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. This film walked away with the award for the best motion picture – musical or comedy, while its stars Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose collected acting awards in their respective categories.

It was also a big night for HBO’s Succession, which was crowned as the big winner in three categories. It won the award for best drama series, while its stars Jeremy Strong and Sarah Snook won trophies for best actor and best-supporting actress in a drama series.

After facing a lot of controversy throughout the past few years, the HFPA privately held this year’s Golden Globes on January 9th without a live broadcast or red carpet.
