The first trailer for the upcoming spy thriller, The Spy, features lead Sacha Baron Cohen in a completely different light.

Netflix has released the first look at the limited series from Homeland’s Gideon Raff. The six-episode series is based on a true story and follows the Israeli clerk-turned-Mossad-agent Eli Cohen, as he goes undercover in Syria.

Cohen’s character is “a man who wants nothing more than to be of service to his country, but he does his job so well that he finds it hard to strip off his double identity,” Netflix said.

“Taking off the clothes doesn’t work anymore; I can’t put him away,” says Cohen in the trailer.

The Spy also stars Noah Emmerich (The Americans), Hadar Ratzon Rotem (Homeland) and Waleed Zuaiter (Colony).

If there’s one man who seems able to get famous people to say awkward things, it’s Sacha Baron Cohen.

The British actor has played the role of several characters throughout the years, including a former Israeli operative, a gang member, and a journalist from Kazakhstan.

His undercover interviews have encouraged everyone from politicians to ordinary citizens to say everything from ridiculous and racist things, to things that could even be incriminating.

But how does he pull it off?

Don Cheadle asked Baron Cohen just when the two sat down for Variety’s Actors on Actors series.

“You are very popular and famous, and I would recognize you anywhere,” the Avengers actor said. “Have you ever been busted?”

The star of This Is America detailed a production test where he wore a massive wig for a scene set in a gun store. “The guy immediately looked at me and goes, ‘I know you.’ With recognition, it happens within the first second. There’s a part of the brain that recognizes the face,” Cohen said.

The consequence was hiring a top make-up and special effects designer who would spend 5 to 6 hours creating a look each time there was a shoot.

The results speak for themselves.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 has been struck from the roll.

Screenwriter of The Social Network, Aaron Sorkin, was set to direct his second feature film — following Molly’s Game — based on a group of antiwar activists who were accused by the federal government of conspiracy and incitement to riot because of the protests surrounding the 1968 Democratic National Convention.

The film was set to star Sacha Baron Cohen of This is America, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star Eddie Redmayne, and Jonathan Majors from Hostiles.

Sorkin joined the project as director in October. The film was originally set to be helmed by Steven Spielberg when it began development in 2008 and had been passed over by both Paul Greengrass and Ben Stiller during the last 10 years.

According to sources, budgetary concerns forced production company, Amblin Partners, to shut down production of the picture which was in pre-production and due to start filming in February.

“Aaron just adapted To Kill a Mockingbird, which is premiering on Broadway this Thursday,” read a statement. “He is currently evaluating his schedule and commitments to determine the best time and way to make The Trial of the Chicago 7. Amblin remains involved as a producer.”

Sacha Baron Cohen is taking on his old foe Donald Trump (again!)

It looks like the Fourth of July had put Cohen in a celebratory mood, taking to social media to tease a new project.

The guy who brought us Borat, The Dictator and Bruno took to Twitter on Wednesday sharing a video announcing that Cohen is “back like you’ve never seen him before.”

From the video that begins with snippets of footage of Trump himself that was uploaded to YouTube, it’s safe to assume that Cohen is taking on Trump, although his reps have yet to release an official statement.

In the video, Trump is seen saying, “This third-rate character named Sacha Baron Cohen, I only wish that he would’ve been punched in the face so many times right now he’d be in a hospital. It was disgraceful. He should’ve been fired immediately.”

Cohen is currently shooting Netflix series The Spy written and directed by Gideon Raff.
