The 8th season of the beloved sitcom Mom is currently on the way, but with one major change. Anna Faris will leave her co-star Allison Janney after deciding to depart the show to pursue new opportunities.

Since its premiere in 2013, Mom followed the journey of a single mom, Christy Plunkett, as she tries to turn her life around after years of struggling with addiction and rebuild her relationship with her estranged mother Bonnie.

Faris announced her departure in a touching statement and thanked the creative masterminds behind this show for creating “a truly wonderful work experience”. She described the past seven years as some of the most fulfilling and rewarding of her career and said she’ll keep rooting for her TV family.

WBTV, CBS, and Chuck Lorre Production also released an official statement wishing Faris all the best. They thanked her for “her beautiful portrayal” and added they’re proud of the stories they have been able to tell during the past seven seasons of Mom.

It’s a good day to be a fan of Chuck Lorre comedies.

As news of show renewals (and dreaded cancellations) continue to pour in, CBS has decided to give the nod of approval to three shows by creator Chuck Lorre.

The network is currently home to Mom, The Big Bang Theory, and its spin-off, Young Sheldon.

All three are set to return to screens later this year, with Mom — which recently celebrated in 100th episode — coming back for a 6th season; The Big Bang Theory is set to continue making science cool for a 12th year; and Young Sheldon coming back for its second.

The news of Mom being picked up again was made by executive producer, Lorre, during the show’s wrap party.

The trio’s renewal does not come as much of a surprise as they mark CBS’s top 3 comedies amongst both adults aged between 25 and 54, as well as 18 to 49.

Here’s to more Lorre!
