]]>BBC America has ordered a new and third season of the acclaimed drama starring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer. The duo play an MI6 operative (Oh) and a psychopath assassin (Comer) bound by mutual obsession.
News of the renewal came just as the show returned for its second season on Monday.
The series has not only been renewed for a third season, it will also feature a new showrunner, Suzanne Heathcote, who will be taking over for Emerald Fennell as lead writer and executive producer. Fennell is set to take over for creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
“I’m very excited that the Killing Eve baton is being passed onto another incredible writer for season three. We can sleep soundly knowing these characters are safe in Suzanne Heathcote’s hilariously murderous hands,” said Waller-Bridge.
“It’s been such an exciting year for me on Killing Eve. I think it’s cool that this tradition has been built into this nontraditional show. Inheriting some of Phoebe’s characters was a treat — I can’t wait to see what Suzanne does next,” added Fennell.
“We love having this show and the brilliant Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer and Fiona Shaw on our networks,” said Sarah Barnett, President, Entertainment Networks for AMC Networks.
“Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Emerald Fennell have delivered two addictively entertaining seasons. As we did last year, we’re renewing Killing Eve right out of the gate, now with Suzanne Heathcote as lead writer, as a sign of confidence – we adore this show as much as our fans do. Killing Eve doesn’t do anything in a templated way; we love giving opportunity to three genius women to make their mark.”
The series is based on the Codename Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings and has earned two Emmy award nominations and 14 BAFTA TV Award nominations.

]]>But, according to its lead actress, Killing Eve is set to get even darker in season two.
The sophomore instalment will continue just 30 seconds after the point season one had ended, on a rather “sharp” cliffhanger, as Eve Polastri continues to hunt down the assassin Villanelle.
Sandra Oh, who plays Eve, has already picked up a multitude of awards for the role, and teased what’s in store for her character during an interview with Uproxx.
“You know, I’d say definitely for Eve’s character — her journey — it gets super dark. I feel like she is pushed to the limit in her — not so much pursuit of Villanelle at this point — but her dynamic with Villanelle and her pursuit of her job. And she’s pushed to the limit, and then she goes over. She fell over. Yeah.”
We’ll find out just how far Eve fell when Killing Eve returns on 7th of April 2019.
