]]>The clip sees Mandy Patinkin’s Saul working as a national security advisor for the newly installed President Warner seeking the help of his protégé, Carrie (Claire Danes).
“I need Carrie in Kabul for a week off or two” he says “right away” to which she responds “hell yes.”
But after someone tells him “you have a traitor in your camp,” could it be Carrie? Could she have turned during her time in confinement? Did she conspire with her captors in that Russian gulag?
“I believe you…no one else will,” Saul tells Carrie.
After a two year hiatus, it’s time to question everyone, in Season 5 of Homeland which debuts February 9, 2020.

]]>The last installment of the series, based on the Israeli drama Hatufim, will see Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) embark on one final mission.
The longline from Showtime states:
“The final season of Homeland finds Carrie Mathison (Danes) recovering from months of brutal confinement in a Russian gulag. Her body is healing, but her memory remains fractured — which is a problem for Saul (Mandy Patinkin), now National Security Advisor to the newly ascendant President Warner (Beau Bridges).
“The top priority of Warner’s young administration is an end to the ‘forever war’ in Afghanistan, and Saul has been dispatched to engage the Taliban in peace negotiations. But Kabul teems with warlords and mercenaries, zealots and spies — and Saul needs the relationships and expertise that only his protégé can provide. Against medical advice, Saul asks Carrie to walk with him into the lion’s den — one last time.”
Danes, Patinkin, and Bridges will be reprising their roles in the eighth season, alongside Maury Sterling, Linus Roache and Costa Ronin, Nimrat Kaur, Numan Acar, and Hugh Dancy.
Fans will have a while to wait, however, as the final season is only scheduled to premiere on February 9th, 2020.

]]>Showtime confirms that Homeland will end after season eight. The news was announced by the network’s CEO and president David Nevins on Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour.
“Homeland has been a game-changing series for SHOWTIME, as provocative about the world we live in as it is prescient,” Nevins said. “This project, arriving right at the beginning of my Showtime tenure thanks to [producers] Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and brought to life by a remarkable cast led by Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, is a richly written character study that is now ready for its natural conclusion. Viewers will be rewarded by the way Alex brings Homeland home.”
“Homeland has been the most joyful and rewarding experience of my career,” showrunner Alex Gansa said. “Not many have been as lucky as me — partnered with the miraculous Claire Danes, supported to the ends of the earth by Fox and Showtime, and working in the company of some of the most gifted writers, actors, and filmmakers in the business. I am sad to see the journey coming to an end, but it is time.”
Production on the final twelve episodes will begin early next year. Season eight is scheduled to premiere in June 2019.

]]>“Yeah, that’s it,” said Danes after Stern brought up the rumors that Homeland will end after the eighth season.
“I mean, I’ll be ready. She’s a lot, this Carrie-freakin’-Mathison character,” she added. “It’s a workout, so I’ll be ready for a reprieve from that.”
Claire Danes also revealed she and husband Hugh Dancy are expecting their second child but noted that her pregnancy won’t affect the production of Homeland.
Showtime is still to confirm that the series is ending, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the network might be reluctant to do so due to plans to introduce new showrunner and new cast.
Current showrunner and writer Alex Gansa previously stated that he will leave Homeland after season eight, but wouldn’t mind leaving the story open for others to continue.
“It’s definitely going to be my last year,” Gansa said to THR in February. “I can’t speak for Claire or Mandy, but it will be my final year and it will be designed to be the end of an eight-season story. If Showtime, Fox, Claire, and Mandy want to take the show further that’s their decision, and we would leave some room for that to happen — if there’s an appetite.”
Based on the Israeli series Prisoners of War, Homeland premiered on Showtime in 2011 and received universal appraisal. During its run, the series received numerous awards including Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama in 2011 and 2012, as well as 2012 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series.
