JK Rowling is putting her money where her heart is.

The novelist made a donation of several million pounds last week to help fund multiple sclerosis research.

The disease, which affects the nerves and eventually renders the sufferer incapable of performing even basic functions, is close to home for the 54-year-old author as her mother was a victim, and lost her battle at the age of 45.

The £15.3 million donation to the University of Edinburgh will be used to help create new facilities and fund new research into MS and similar conditions. Funds will also be spent on building new centers at the the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic, which was named after the Harry Potter author’s late mother and established after a previous donation in 2010.

“When the Anne Rowling Clinic was first founded, none of us could have predicted the incredible progress that would be made in the field of Regenerative Neurology, with the Clinic leading the charge,” Rowling said.

“I am delighted to now support the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic into a new phase of discovery and achievement, as it realizes its ambition to create a legacy of better outcomes for generations of people with MS and non-MS neurodegenerative diseases.”

Magic comes in all forms.

Stephen king’s newest novel The Institute has just hit the shelves, but it is already being adapted into a TV series.

The rights to the book were won by Spyglass, which plans to make it into a limited series, according to Variety.

David E. Kelly will write the script and serve as an executive producer, while Lost director Jack Bender will direct and also serve as an executive producer. The two have already worked together in the past on Mr. Mercedes an adaptation of Stephen King’s Bill Hodges trilogy.

The Institute follows Luke Ellis whose parents are murdered in the middle of the night by intruders. Luke wakes up at The Institute in a room that looks just like his own, except there are no windows. Outside his door are other doors, behind which are other kids with special talents, such as telekinesis and telepathy, who got there the same way Luke did. It is said to be one of King’s scariest novels.

“We have big plans for The Institute here at Spyglass,” said Spyglass’ president of television Lauren Whitney. “Having the opportunity to work on a new and brilliant book by Stephen King is an absolute privilege. We are thrilled to collaborate with this dream team, including the incomparable David E. Kelley, and Jack Bender, the architect behind this project, whose extensive directing and executive producing credits speak for themselves.”

We weren’t the only ones disappointed by the developments of Game of Thrones season 8.

The final season in the saga was considered by both critics and fans to be a let-down regarding plot and character development, which seemed to have fallen away.

But rest assured, there is still hope that our beloved characters will get the ending they deserve — thanks to their original creator, George R. R. Martin.

When asked whether the ending of the HBO of series would have any effect on the ending of A Song of Ice of Ice and Fire, Martin told The Observer, “No, it doesn’t. It doesn’t change anything at all. You can’t please everybody, so you’ve got to please yourself. Some of [the theories] are right and some of [the theories] are wrong. They’ll find out when I finish.”

Sadly we have no time frame for that…

It’s been a tough… while… for book fans of A Song of Ice and Fire, and it doesn’t appear as though that is going to change any time soon.

Loyalists to A Song of Ice and Fire have literally had to wait years between novels.

Five books of the best-selling series have already been released with another two expected.

The last book in the series, A Dance with Dragons, was released way back in 2011, resulting in producers of the television series having to veer ahead of the novels and in some cases take a very different turn for certain characters.

That trend is likely to continue as author George R. R. Martin has now confirmed that the wait will probably be as long Daenerys Targaryen’s pursuit of the Iron Throne…

The 69-year-old wrote on his blog: “Winds of Winter will not be released this year. No, winter is not coming… not in 2018, at least. You’re going to have to keep waiting for THE WINDS OF WINTER.”

At least we’ll have the books to curb our withdrawal from the TV series ending… when they eventually come out.

It’s a good thing that Aaron Sorkin is so adept at writing courtroom scenes because the screenwriter might soon be involved in a real-life legal drama.

The Oscar-winner is being sued by Harper Lee’s estate.

Sorkin had planned a theatre adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird which was set to be produced by Scott Rudin who had previously collaborated with Sorkin on The Social Network and The Newsroom.

Lee had given her approval for the adaptation just months before dying in 2015.

But, the late author’s family is now having second thoughts about the retelling of Atticus Finch’s story (which has cast Jeff Daniels in the lead) due to claims that Sorkin will be straying from Lee’s original vision.

“As far as Atticus and his virtue goes, this is a different take on Mockingbird than Harper Lee’s or Horton Foote’s,” said Sorkin. “He becomes Atticus Finch by the end of the play, and while he’s going along, he has a kind of running argument with Calpurnia, the housekeeper, which is a much bigger role in the play I just wrote. He is in denial about his neighbors, and his friends and the world around him, that is as racist as it is, that a Maycomb County jury could possibly put Tom Robinson in jail when it’s so obvious what happened here. He becomes an apologist for these people.”

The estate is now demanding a declaratory judgment that the characters in the adaptation may in no way be altered.

As Atticus Finch said, “the Best way to clear the air is to have it all out in the open.”

As Sara Daniu, the permanent secretary of The Swedish Academy, said, Ishiguro is a “mix of Jane Austen and Franz Kafka, but you have to add a little bit of Marcel Proust into the mix.”

The author has published seven novels so far, including A Pale View of Hills (1982), An Artist of the Floating World (1986), The Remains of the Day (1989), The Unconsoled (1995), When We Were Orphans (2000), Never Let Me Go (2005), and The Buried Giant (2015).
