]]>Smith has been acting since the 50s when she mostly focused on her stage career before making a transition to the silver screen. She went on to win two Oscars for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and California Suite, in addition to receiving four more nominations.
The general public knows her as Professor Minerva McGonagall from the Harry Potter films, but we’ve also watched her in Hook, Sister Act, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, A Room with a View, and Gosford Park. On the TV side, she’s best known as Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey, for which she won three Emmy Awards.
Smith’s sons Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin confirmed she passed away on September 27, adding she was at a hospital surrounded by her friends and family. King Charles III released a statement following the tragic news, describing her as “a national treasure”, whose warmth and wit shone through both off and on the stage.
Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint were among many actors paying homage to Smith on social media, along with her Downton Abbey co-stars Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery and her Sister Act co-star Whoopi Goldberg.

]]>The Canadian actor has been rising through the ranks since the 60s when he starred in The Dirty Dozen and M*A*S*H. At the time of his passing, his filmography included around 200 credits, including the role of President Snow in The Hunger Games franchise, along with Don’t Look Now (1973), Animal House (1978), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Ordinary People (1980), The Italian Job (2003), and Pride & Prejudice (2005).
Sutherland’s performances attracted critical acclaim and several prestigious accolades, including one Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globes. He’s also a recipient of an Academy Honorary Award, despite never being nominated for an Oscar in competitive categories.
The late actor’s son Kiefer Sutherland shared the news of his passing on social media and took a moment to reflect on his legacy, writing, “I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived.”

]]>Billie Eilish is one of the front-runners for the best original song Oscar, and she’ll hit the stage with her brother Finneas O’Connell for a powerful rendition of “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie. Ryan Gosling will join forces with Mark Ronson to bring another Barbie song to the Oscars stage – the viral hit “I’m Just Ken”.
The remaining three best original song nominees will also be performed at the Oscars. Becky G will grace the stage with her take on Diane Warren’s “The Fire Inside” from Flamin’ Hot, Jon Batiste will perform “It Never Went Away” from American Symphony, while Scott George and the Osage Singers will put a new twist on “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon.
This announcement comes shortly after the Academy unveiled the first round of this year’s presenters, which includes many previous Oscar winners, including last year’s recipients Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Brendan Fraser.
The 2024 Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 10, with Jimmy Kimmel coming back to host the ceremony for the fourth time.

]]>Perry was pronounced dead on October 28, after his assistant found him unresponsive in a hot tub at his house in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. The actor died from an apparent drowning, but the official cause of death is yet to be determined by the Los Angeles Police Department.
Perry is best known for starring alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow on the hit 90s sitcom Friends. The show’s co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and executive producer Kevin Bright released a statement following his passing and described him as the funniest person in the room.
“From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us. We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment – not just to his work, but in life as well,” they said in a statement.
Perry’s talent extended beyond the confines of Central Perk, and it also included notable TV roles in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Odd Couple. He also scored two Emmy nods for the guest-starring spot on The West Wing, and appeared in movies The Whole Nine Yards, 17 Again, and The Ron Clark Story.

]]>Coltrane’s agent Belinda Wright confirmed he died at a hospital in Larbert, Scotland on October 14. She described him as a “unique talent” and asked the public to respect his family’s privacy at this distressing time.
“For me personally I shall remember him as an abidingly loyal client. As well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him,” said Wright.
Many of Coltrane’s past collaborators honored his legacy on social media, including Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Bonnie Wright, and comedians Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, among others.
Despite being best known as Hagrid from the Harry Potter series, Coltrane established himself as one of Britain’s most prolific performers long before being cast in this role. He also starred in the James Bond series as Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky and won several BAFTA TV Awards for his role in the crime drama Cracker.

]]>Heche was involved in a sequence of two car crashes in Los Angeles on August 5. She was rushed to the hospital in a critical state, and her representatives said she wasn’t expected to survive after she spent several days in a coma. Heche was declared legally dead on August 12 and was left on life support until a suitable organ recipient was found.
The star’s family confirmed her passing in an official statement and said she will be deeply missed, but she lives on through her beautiful sons, her iconic body of work, and her passionate advocacy.
“We have lost a bright light, a kind and most joyful soul, a loving mother, and a loyal friend… Her bravery for always standing in her truth, spreading her message of love and acceptance, will continue to have a lasting impact.”
Heche got her big break with her Daytime Emmy-winning role on the soap opera Another World, and went on to star in dozens of different projects in the next three decades. She played supporting roles in films Donnie Brasco, Volcano, Six Days, Seven Nights, and Return to Paradise and appeared on TV shows Men in Trees, Hung, Aftermath, and Gracie’s Choice, for which she received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

]]>The news of the couple’s marriage comes only a few months after their engagement in April, but it’s not exactly a shocker. They rekindled their romance two decades after their first engagement and repeatedly spoke about their gratitude for a second chance at love.
Multiple outlets reported that the couple obtained a marriage license in Clark County, Nevada on July 16 and went on to marry at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. We took this news with a grain of salt until J. Lo herself confirmed it in her “On the JLo” newsletter.
She signed it with “Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck”, confirming that she took Affleck’s last name, and describing their Las Vegas ceremony as “exactly what we wanted” and the “best night of our lives”.
“So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives,” wrote the singer.

Her agent Jeff Witjas confirmed her passing in an official statement and said to PEOPLE, “Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever.”
Tributes for White poured in on New Year’s Eve after the news of her death made the headlines. Ryan Reynolds, Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Viola Davis, and Robert Redford are some of the stars who shared touching stories and tributes, remembering the time they shared with White.
White got her start as a game show host, before securing a role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She became a household name while playing Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls, and made a comeback with the role on Hot in Cleveland during the 2010s. She received eight Emmy Awards, three SAG Awards, and one Grammy Award over the course of her career.
Betty White was often referred to as “the first lady of television” due to her great contribution to this medium and she even earned a Guinness World Record for the longest TV career after eight decades in the spotlight.

“There’s no wedding planning happening,” said Woodley. According to the Emmy-nominated actress, they are simply enjoying their engagement at the moment. “There’s no rush. We’ve got no rush.”
Shailene Woodley and Aaron Rodgers reportedly started going out in the summer of 2020, shortly after Rodgers ended things with former car driver Danica Patrick. The rumors about their relationship intensified in early February when several media outlets, including US Weekly and People, broke the news about Woodley and Rodgers being together.
Shortly after that, Rodgers confirmed his relationship with Woodley and said they two are engaged while accepting the NFL MVP award. Woodley followed that up with a confession that they were engaged for months during a chat with The Hollywood Reporter.
“When we announced that we were engaged, we wanted to do that only because we didn’t want someone else to do it before we did,” Woodley shared.
In the same interview, Woodley revealed that she and Rodgers met through mutual friends who are musicians. It didn’t take much for them to click, and they even moved in together a few months later.

This Friends-mini reunion prompted comments from both the fans and the trio’s celebrity friends. Comedian David Spade complained that he was “cropped again” from the photo, while British singer Natasha Bedingfield wrote “Wow” before adding: “Love you guys.”
Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow got together with the rest of the Friends core cast—Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer—for a special reunion episode of the sitcom back in April. The special, which premiered on HBO Max in May, saw the cast talking about the show with celebrity guests while also revealing some previously unknown behind the scene facts.
