The Rampage actor was shooting a scene which dealt with suicide for HBO’s Ballers and chose to disclose that his mother had tried to take her own life by walking into oncoming traffic when he was just 15 years old.

Dwayne revealed that he had saved his mom’s life during the horrific incident: “Big rigs and cars swerving outta the way not to hit her. I grabbed her and pulled her back on the gravel shoulder of the road. What’s crazy about that suicide attempt is to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn’t.”

The effect of the event caused the former professional wrestler to fall into depression, telling Express, “I reached a point where I didn’t want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly.”

Thirty years later, The Rock has said he and his mother have “both healed, but we’ve always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain. We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone.”

And that is what they call true strength.
