Before his death in 1985, the legendary filmmaker made over 50 films, including Citizen Kane, but there remained one which was never completed.

Financial issues prevented Welles from furthering work on The Other Side of the World which he began filming in 1970.

But, the film starring John Huston, Peter Bogdanovich, Susan Strasberg, and Oja Kodar, which tells the story of director J.J. “Jake” Hannaford who heads back to Los Angeles after years of self-exile in Europe to complete his comeback movie, has managed to find new life in 2018.

More than a thousand reels of film negatives were stored in a Paris vault until March 2017, when producers Frank Marshall (who served as Welles’s production manager during his initial shooting) and Filip Jan Rymsza pushed forward to complete the film.

The feature is now set to debut at the Venice Film Festival and the New York Film Festival before being released in selected theatres with the aid of Netflix and then shown on the streaming service.
