Before Meghan Markle became the public’s darling, that role was held by Prince William and Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

The royal passed away in 1997 following a car crash in Paris.

While she has not been portrayed too often in films and television, that will change on the new season of The Crown.

The Netflix series will be jumping forward a few years from where we last left Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip.

The roles played by Claire Foy and Matt Smith will be taken over by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies, who will pick up the story when their eldest son, Prince Charles, is himself an adult (played by Josh O’Connor).

Despite the third season of The Crown being released later this year, producers have already announced some of the cast for season four — including that of Princess Diana.

The Princess of Wales will be played by newcomer Emma Corrin.

“Beyond excited and honored to be joining The Crown for its fourth season,” she said. “I have been glued to the show since the first episode and to think I’m now joining this incredibly talented acting family is just surreal.”

“Princess Diana was an icon, and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To be given the chance to explore her through Peter Morgan’s writing is the most exceptional opportunity, and I will strive to do her justice!” Corrin added.

We’re sure she’ll do Lady Di proud.
