From Elvis Presley to Freddie Mercury, many music legends got Hollywood treatment in recent years, and The Beatles are the next ones in line! The Oscar winner Sam Mendes joined forces with Sony for four films inspired by each member of the Fab Four.

Mendes is planning to tell the astonishing story of the greatest band in history—and one film won’t be enough to get things done. According to his production partner Pippa Harris, they’re plotting “a uniquely thrilling, and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives which tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time.”

They found a perfect partner in crime in Sony Pictures Entertainment, and their CEO Tom Rothman promises this project “will rock audiences all over the globe”. They’re planning to release all four films theatrically in 2027, and their rollout strategy for this cinematic event has been described as “innovative and groundbreaking”.

The Beatles recorded music together between 1960 and 1970 and became a true sensation all around the globe before going their separate ways. With an estimated 600 million records sold online, they’re one of the best-selling music acts of all time, and many artists have cited them as their main influence over the course of the past five decades.

Yesterday was one of the feel-good films of the summer. Starring Himesh Patel, the uplifting blockbuster tells the story of a failing musician who wakes up to discover that no one remembers The Beatles.

Months after the film’s initial release, Sir Paul McCartney has revealed that he was not impressed by the idea and declined the opportunity to watch a premiere screening. Now, he has confessed that he eventually did go and see the movie. And he loved it.

“That began when Richard Curtis, who [directed] Love Actually, wrote to me with the idea. And I thought, ‘This is a terrible idea’, but I couldn’t tell him, so I said, ‘Well, that sounds interesting – good luck,’” the Beatle told Billboard.

“I didn’t think anything more of it. Then someone said Danny Boyle would direct it, and I thought, ‘They must think they can pull it off.’ And I thought nothing more of it until they asked if I wanted to see a screening. I asked Nancy, and we said, ‘Let’s go, you and me, on a date to the cinema’.”

The couple then snuck into the cinema anonymously, hoping that no one would catch them.

He recalled: “We were in the Hamptons in the summer and there it was, so we got two tickets and walked in when the cinema went dark. Only a couple of people saw us. We were in the back row, giggling away, especially at all the mentions of Paul McCartney. A couple of people in front of us spotted us, but everyone else was watching the film. We loved it.”
