]]>The 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards took place in Santa Monica on Sunday night, hosted by Taye Diggs.
It proved to be a good night for Alfonso Cuarón and Roma which is making headway ahead of the Oscars.
The Mexican film won 4 awards including Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography, Best Director, and Best Picture.
Best Actress in a Motion Picture proved interesting as Lady Gaga of A Star Is Born tied with The Wife’s Glenn Close for the honour.
The male equivalent was more straight-forward, being awarded to Christian Bale for playing Dick Chaney in Vice.
The year’s most nominated film, The Favourite, only won two prizes — Best Ensemble and Best Actress in a Comedy for Olivia Colman.
The Americans, which concluded its final season in May, picked up awards for Best Television Drama, lead actor Matthew Rhys and supporting actor Noah Emmerich.
The comedy category was swept by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with its star Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein claiming lead and supporting actress, respectively, while the series took home Best Comedy.
The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story won the limited series / TV movie award, with star Darren Criss picking up the lead actor honour.

]]>“I hate to say it, but we both cried. We did, it’s the truth,” Rhys told ET’s Leanne Aguilera. “Separately, as we were in different places, but we both cried.”
The actor said that they both teared up “for various reasons. Both for what was on the last page and for what the last page meant, on and off the screen.”
Russell and Rhys played on the FX’ dark drama series Soviet KGB agents who go undercover as Philip and Elizabeth Jennings, an American couple living in Washington D.C. during the height of Cold War in the 1980s.
In its last and shocking episode, The Americans stage a bloodless coup where the lead characters made it through the end.
“I didn’t know what was gonna happen actually, I had no idea what was gonna happen,” Russell revealed.
“I kinda said to myself, just before reading it, ‘If one of us dies, understandable. If we both make it? It’s a bonus,'” Rhys added.
The two actually met and fell in love while filming the series and started their romance in late 2013. They welcomed their first son together, Sam, in May 2016. They live in Brooklyn together with Russell’s two kids from previous marriage. For the past five years, the couple spent many days away from home shooting The Americans. But now that the show has ended, they are embracing a more quiet life. The actress said she’s looking forward to taking her kids to school and to dinners with family and friends, Esquire reports.
