Taika Waititi is crossing the great comic book divide.

Most people are asked to nail their colors to the mast and choose Marvel or DC, but the New Zealand filmmaker has decided not to.

Waititi played the role of Korg in Thor: Ragnarok, which he directed in 2017. He then followed that up by reprising the role in this year’s final film in the current phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame.

Reports have now claimed that Waititi will be hopping across the metaphorical pond to the world of DC, where he will be joining the Suicide Squad sequel.

Production on the James Gunn feature is scheduled to begin on September 23rd, with Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba already onboard.

But don’t worry, Marvel fans. Waititi will be back in the MCU to helm Thor: Love and Thunder, which will see Natalie Portman taking on the role of a female Thor.

The latter will be out on November 3rd 2021, while The Suicide Squad debuts on August 4th 2021.

Woah, Will Smith, where you going?

According to Variety, the Aladdin actor will not be starring in the Suicide Squad sequel.

The original film came out in 2016, with Smith taking on the role of Deadshot.

With a sequel in the works, it was expected that the 50 year old would return as the assassin who led the film, which also featured various DC villains including The Joker and Harley Quinn.

It appears, however, that Smith will not be joining The Suicide Squad, which will be directed by James Gunn, due to scheduling conflicts.

The film is expected to start production in the fall ahead of a release date of August 6th, 2021, with Smith having at least 3 films — including sequels to Bad Boys and Bright — lined up.

But before Smith fans begin to mourn his absence, they should be reminded of Margot Robbie, who was originally set to not return as Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad sequel, but now will.

The Guardians of the Galaxy has been tapped to pen the Suicide Sequel

James Gunn will be writing the script for the next installment of the franchise for Warner Bros. and DC. Gunn is also in talks to direct the film.

Just a couple of months ago, the 52-year-old filmmaker was fired by Disney after a series of offensive tweets he had written years before resurfaced. The decade-old tweets made offensive jokes about race and pedophilia. Gunn, who directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies had the support of almost the entire cast, however, Disney refused to go back on its decision to let the filmmaker go. Consequently, production on the upcoming Marvel sequel has been on hold indefinitely.

“Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today,” he wrote apologetically. “Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.”

The first Suicide Squad told the story of a band of misfit and starred Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Jared Leto, and Cara Delevigne. The movie did not do well with the critics and made $746 million worldwide.
