19 years after the death of one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived, one of his manuscripts has been discovered.

Stanley Kubrick has often been described as one of cinema’s most influential directors, having helmed Spartacus, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange.

A film professor at Bangor University has now found a manuscript entitled Burning Secret, based on the 1913 novella by the Viennese writer Stefan Zweig, which Kubrick reportedly wrote in 1956.

His adaptation sees a suave and predatory man befriending a 10-year-old boy and using him to seduce the child’s married mother.

Written at a time when the late filmmaker was still relatively unknown, the screenplay is almost entirely near-completion, meaning that it could easily be produced for the screen.

It is currently owned by the son of one of Kubrick’s former collaborators.
