The network has decided to develop a television series based upon St. Elmo’s Fire, which came out in 1985.

At the time, the coming-of-age film did not find favor with critics, but has since been regarded as a teen classic that launched the careers of Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, and Demi Moore.

The trio starred alongside Andrew McCarthy, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Mare Winningham as a group of recent Georgetown University graduates who must now adjust to life after their studies.

Joel Schumacher directed and co-wrote the film, with Josh Berman now attached to write and executive produce the television version. The Drop Dead Diva creator will executive produce alongside Chris King, while Sony Pictures Television and Osprey Productions will helm the project.

The official logline for the hour-long drama calls it “a modern adaptation of the feature film that showcases a group of close friends struggling with career, commitment, and the responsibilities of adulthood.”
