In what was a mockumentary masterpiece (and pioneer for its time) the journey of a parody rock band was brought to life 35 years ago.

Spinal Tap first appeared on a 1979 ABC TV sketch comedy pilot called The T.V. Show, which starred When Harry Met Sally director, Rob Reiner.

5 years later, the 3 actors who had assumed the role of the band took part in the fake documentary, This Is Spinal Tap, and even released a soundtrack of the same name.

Now, three and a half decades later, the film will be screened at the 2019 TriBeCa Film Festival, following which Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer will perform as themselves in tribute to the fictional band Spinal Tap.

“Spinal Tap proves there is definitely a fine line between stupid and clever,” said Reiner who directed, co-wrote, and starred in the mockumentary.
