]]>Lopez portrayed the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla in the 1996 hit film. Back then she said: “Selena was such a great role model and she broke so many barriers. She did so much great stuff for the Latino community, and gave all these little girls somebody to look up to. The movie, in that sense, can help in the same way, breaking down barriers in Hollywood [because] we’ve had so many problems getting good roles. For me, it’s such a blessing. It’s an honor to be able to do this.”
The 3-minute clip was shared on J. Lo’s Instagram and begins with a scene from the biopic.
“Join me today in #CelebratingSelena. I can’t believe it’s been 23 years since this incredible movie came out and 25 years since her passing,” she captioned the clip. “Selena was such an inspiration to me and I was so lucky to be chosen to play her. As an artist, this movie truly was an experience I’m going to remember for the rest of my life. Please share your memories of Selena and the movie with me below.”

Her life was documented in the 1997 film Selena which starred Jennifer Lopez and showed the singer’s rise to fame — as well as her tragic death at the hands of her fan club president.
Selena’s story is now set to be introduced to new audiences, courtesy of Netflix.

The streaming service has commissioned a scripted series about the late Grammy winner’s life that will be written by Moisés Zamora of Star and executively produced by Selena’s parents, amongst others.
Selena: The Series will consist of 2 parts and is predicted to follow a specific period in the artist’s life — most likely that in which she comes of age.
