Power to the purple!

33 years after film audiences were introduced to Alice Walker’s novel, The Color Purple, history is scheduled to repeat itself.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning work about African-American women in the American South during the early 1900s was directed for the screen by Steven Spielberg and starred Oprah Winfrey, Danny Glover, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Since then, it has been adapted into a stage musical which has starred American Idol winner, Fantasia Barrino, and Dreamgirls actress, Jennifer Hudson, throughout its various runs.

Spielberg, Winfrey, and producer Quincy Jones are now reportedly adapting the musical version for the screen.

The stage production has won 3 Tony Awards while the film did not take home any of the 11 Academy Awards for which it was nominated.

Perhaps it will be second time lucky…

No one knows a dad better than his daughter, so it seems rather perfect that Rashida Jones will be holding the reigns of a new documentary based on her father.

Quincy Jones has been in the music biz for 6 decades, with the record producer having worked with greats such as Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra.

A legend in his own right, Quincy will now be the subject of a Netflix doccie that will be directed by Rashida and Alan Hicks.

“It’s rare that somebody who has lived as much life as my dad is still interested in growing and knowing the next generation,” the 42-year-old said in a statement. “He is such a man of action and accomplishments, but we were so lucky to spend real time with him, to let him reflect on life and the larger picture. I feel honored to be able to share that with audiences all over the world.”

The documentary about the EGOT winner will air on Netflix from September 21 and can look forward to a limited theatrical release.
