Olivia Rodrigo Makes Bloody Good Comeback With Biting New Single “Vampire”

It’s been two years since Olivia Rodrigo dropped her last single, and it’s finally time to sink your teeth into her new music. The singer made a bloody good comeback with her new song “Vampire”, and its thrilling music video sees her embracing her dark side.

To bring the music video for this song to life, Rodrigo joined forces with her frequent collaborator Petra Collins. The duo worked together to hone a visual filled with vampire references that don’t embrace this theme in a literal way.

“Vampire” sees Rodrigo being hit by a light while performing at an awards show. She can’t deal with the audience’s shock scared and escapes into the night while covered in blood, where she’s eventually lifted into the night sky.

Rodrigo described the experience of writing this song as therapeutic and said that it helped her cope with the feelings of anger and regret that she always had a hard time expressing.

“I think it’s just a song about feeling used, and all of the anger and regret and heartbreak that comes with it. And I think that’s a common feeling, whether or not someone’s famous. That was something that was just really bubbling inside of me,” she told Billboard.

“Vampire” serves as the lead single from Rodrigo’s upcoming album Guts, set to be released on September 8.

Olivia Rodrigo Crowned as the Biggest Winner at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards

Olivia Rodrigo has topped Billboard charts on countless occasions during the past year and her domination at the Billboard Music Awards was easy to predict. The 19-year-old rising star picked up seven trophies at this ceremony, followed by Drake with five.

Despite her domination at the BBMAs, Rodrigo failed to pick up the biggest award of the night—the top artist. This honor went to Drake, who won five awards at this ceremony, bringing his career total to 34 and extending his record as the most-awarded artist in the history of the Billboard Music Awards.

Rodrigo might’ve missed the chance to win the top artist award, but that didn’t stop her from being crowned the top new artist and top female artist. She also won awards for the top Hot 100 artist, top streaming songs artist, top radio songs artist, top Billboard 200 Global artist, and top Billboard 200 album with Sour.

Rodrigo didn’t do so great in the songs categories, despite the enormous success of her song “Good 4 U”. “Stay” by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber defeated this smash hit in most categories it was running in including the top Hot 100 song, top streaming song, and top Billboard Global 200 song.

The 2022 Billboard Music Awards were hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs and they took place in Las Vegas on May 15.

The biggest night in music came to Las Vegas on Sunday and some of the world’s leading artists walked away with a Grammy or two by the end of the night. Jon Batiste topped the list of winners with five awards, while Silk Sonic took second place with four.

Batiste was one of the front-runners in this year’s Grammy race after receiving 11 nominations. He managed to win five of them, but only one in the main field—album of the year for We Are. Batiste also received two awards in the American Roots categories, in addition to the best music video for “Freedom” and best score soundtrack for Soul.

As for Silk Sonic, formed by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, they owe their success to their smash hit “Leave the Door Open”. This song earned them a total of four nominations and picked up all the awards it was running for, including record and song of the year, best R&B performance, and best R&B song.

The list of major winners also included Olivia Rodrigo, D’Mile, Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton, and CeCe Winans, with three trophies each. The Grammy Awards were held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 3 with Trevor Noah hosting for the second consecutive year.
