The Marvel film about Wakanda did exceptionally well at the box office, earning over $1.3 billion worldwide, and even scooped up 3 Academy Awards while becoming the first superhero film ever to receive a Best Picture nomination.

Director Ryan Coogler will now attempt to repeat the feat with Black Panther 2.

Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Forrest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, and Angela Bassett are expected to return for the sequel.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said that Coogler has delivered a treatment, complete with a villain and new title.

“We’re not taking our time, we’re really trying to get it right,” the director said of the production schedule.

Black Panther 2 will hit theatres on May 6th, 2022.

The website compiled its annual list of who made it big based on domestic box office earnings throughout the last 12 months.

Josh Brolin found himself in 5th place, having earned $1 billion, mostly thanks to his turn as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, but also his appearance in Deadpool 2. Another Avengers: Infinity War star, Chris Pratt secured 4th place with $1.1 billion. Samuel L. Jackson’s uncredited appearance in the Marvel film earned him $1.29 billion, placing him 3rd.

2nd place was a hard-fought tie between Chadwick Boseman, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Florence Kasumba, and Sebastian Stan whose roles in Black Panther earned them $1.38 billion.

But reigning supreme at the top was the actress who starred in both Black Panther and Avengers, as well as Ready Player One — Letitia.

The British actress earned $1.55 billion in 2018.

It certainly pays to be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
