The finale of season five saw the Lord Commander lying in a pool of his own blood after being stabbed by young Oli. Viewers were left wondering whether Jon was dead or alive for the next 10 months.

And, according to Kit, the scrutiny got so intense that he describes the period as the darkest of his life.

“It wasn’t a very good time in my life,” he told Variety. “I felt I had to feel that I was the most fortunate person in the world, when actually, I felt very vulnerable. I had a shaky time in my life around there — like I think a lot of people do in their 20s.”

Just how bad did it get?

“You get people shouting at you on the street, ‘Are you dead?’ I had felt very unsafe, and I wasn’t talking to anyone,” Kit said. “I had to feel very grateful for what I have, but I felt incredibly concerned about whether I could even f***ing act.”

Well, now that the series is ending, we hope Kit’s life gets easier.

The 31-year-old has had to handle the mantle of being an instant sex symbol, contend with keeping the biggest secret of Game of Thrones and trying to keep Whitewalkers at bay.

But perhaps his biggest challenge has been managing his infamous hair. As part of the actor’s duration on the snow, his contract stipulates that he is forbidden to cut his hair. Now, with the final season of the HBO series having wrapped, Kit can finally do with his hair as he pleases.

The Englishman told EW, “I’d like to step away and enjoy the obscurity, cut my hair, make myself less recognizable as the character, and go do and some other things with a completely new look and tone.”

What does that mean?

“Short-short. The beard will be harder to get rid of — I quite like the beard. I like having the long hair and beard both, but it will be like ritualistic thing. I can’t go into my next role looking the same. This role was brilliant, but I’ll need to get rid of Jon Snow.”
