]]>The original Dirty Dancing was released in 1987 by Vestron and it grossed $217 million at box offices worldwide and sold more than one million home video units. The song from the film, “(I’ve Had) the Time of My Life” won an Academy Award for best original song.
The film took place in 1963 at the Catskills resort and Swayze played Grey’s dance instructor and romantic interest. Jerry Orbach and Kelly Bishop starred as Grey’s parents.
Lionsgate released the prequel Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights in 2004.
Grey’s new dance project will be set in the 1990s and it’s unclear if the film will be about Grey’s Frances “Baby” Houseman.
The untitled project is being shepherding Megamix’s Jonathan Levine and Gillian Bohrer from a screenplay by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart, The Curse of La LLorona).
Most recently, Grey won Season 11 of Dancing With the Stars and she starred in Amazon’s Red Oaks from 2014 to 2017.
