]]>Huey Lewis and the News were set to perform at several festivals including San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, alongside headlining their own shows nationwide.
“Two and a half months ago, just before a show in Dallas, I lost most of my hearing,” wrote Huey Lewis in a statement. “Although I can still hear a little, one-on-one and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing. The lower frequencies distort violently, making it impossible to find pitch… The doctors believe I have Meniere’s Disease and have agreed that I can’t perform until I improve. Therefore, the only prudent thing to do is to cancel all future shows.”

After starting his music career with the band Clover 1971, Huey Lewis worked with numerous influential musicians and bands including Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, and Thin Lizzy. In 1980 he forms his own band, later named Huey Lewis and the News, and released two albums to a modest success. In 1983, however, the band earned major breakthrough with multi-platinum album Sports, their most popular release to date. The band released six more studio albums after, with 2010’s Soulsville being the last one.
Besides music, Huey Lewis pursued an acting career as well and appeared in shows like One Tree Hill, The King of Queens, and Hot in Cleveland.
