This year’s Eurovision Song Contest have us many memorable songs, but only one could come out victorious. Switzerland’s singer Nemo eventually celebrated the victory with their song “The Code”, making history as the first non- binary contestant to win Eurovision.

Nemo, who uses they/them pronouns, drew inspiration from his journey of self-discovery when writing “The Code”. Its lyrics capture the singer’s decision to “crack their own code and enter the kingdom of authenticity” after realizing they’re neither a man nor a woman.

“The Code” left an impression on the Eurovision juries across the continent, and Nemo was rewarded with 22 sets of the maximum 12 points for 365 jury points. Despite losing the public vote to Croatia’s Baby Lasagna with “Rim Tim Tagi Dim”, the Swiss artist eventually emerged victorious with a grand total of 591 points.

Nemo’s win went down in Eurovision’s history books since they’re the first non-binary person to ever take the Eurovision trophy home. This also marks the first victory for Switzerland since 1988, when Celine Dion won big with “Ne partez pas sans moi”.

The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest returned to Malmö, Sweden, just in time for the 50th anniversary of ABBA’s win. Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman hosted the grand final, which took place on May 11 at Malmö Arena.

The 65th edition of Eurovision, set to take place in Rotterdam in May, has been officially canceled.

News that the 2020 Eurovision has been called off amid Coronavirus fears has been confirmed by the event’s organizer, the European Broadcasting Union.

“The uncertainty created by the spread of Covid-19 throughout Europe — and the restrictions put in place by the governments of the participating broadcasters and the Dutch authorities — means the European Broadcasting Union has taken the difficult decision that it is impossible to continue with the live event as planned.”

This will be the first time the competition has not taken place since it started in 1956.

Rotterdam, get ready to rock!

The Dutch city has been chosen as the location for the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest.

As is tradition, the winning country of the previous year gets to host the following year’s competition.

Duncan Laurence claimed victory in May when the song “Arcade” was chosen by viewers around Europe as the best song of the year.

His win in Tel Aviv was the first for The Netherlands since 1975!

Numerous Dutch cities bid to host the event, which attracts tourists from around the world for a week of music, parties, and fun.

Rotterdam has now officially been selected by the European Broadcasting Union and announced that the semi-finals will be held on May 12th and 14th, 2020, with the final on May 16th.

“As an entrepreneurial and creative city, Rotterdam fits perfectly with this event,” said Shula Rijxman, who is the Director-General of Dutch public broadcaster NPO.

Douze points, Rotterdam!

A beautiful stranger will be making her way to Tel Aviv.

It has been confirmed that Madonna will be performing at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest next month.

Israel will be hosting the 2019 event, which has been described as the musical Olympics. Countries throughout Europe (plus Australia) send a singer or group to represent them, with fellow countries bestowing points. The winning country then hosts the following year’s Eurovision.

The week-long festivities often include many parties, much color, and fun fare as fans from around the world descend on the host nation.

Israel — and Tel Aviv in particular — will have the honors this year after its representative, Netta Barzilai, was crowned the winner of last year’s contest, thanks to her song “Toy.”

The European Broadcasting Union has now confirmed that the Queen of Pop will perform two songs at the event — one well-known and one that is new.

The “Vogue” singer’s performance will reportedly cost $1 million, with American billionaire Sylvan Adams footing the bill.

Madonna will strike a pose on the Eurovision stage during the finale on the 18th of May.

Funnyman Will Ferrell is coming to Netflix (again!).

Ferrell will headline in a new Eurovision song contest comedy for the streaming giant.

The comedy will be co-written by Ferrell himself alongside Andrew Steele. Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum will produce for Gary Sanchez Productions, and Adam McKay will serve as executive producer.

Apparently, Ferrell is a real-life fan of the musical competition ever since his Swedish wife introduced him to it.

While the musical fixture might not be big in the US, it most definitely is across the Atlantic, so it seems that this is an attempt by Netflix to create content that will appeal to its international subscribers.

This project will be the second feature-length production the actor has collaborated on with the streaming service. Just last month Ibiza was released on the platform, a comedy he produced starring Gillian Jacobs.

Time to warm up those vocal chords!
