It’s 1927 and it’s time for a royal visit.

The first official trailer for the Downton Abbey movie is finally here and the Crawley family is preparing for the arrival of the King and Queen.

With the film set about 18 months after the end of the series, it means that the family will get to meet King George V and his wife, Queen Mary.

Last year, director Michael Engler teased that the feature adaptation of the small screen hit would see the household get ready for a big event.

“Life is settling into these new realities when this event happens at Downton that brings everybody together,” he said. “The story line has expanded the scale of it. It takes the things you love about Downton — the romance, the intrigue, the pageantry — and makes it bigger.”

Get ready for some good old British romance, intrigue, and pageantry this September.

Downton is in our midsts!

We have been coiffuring our hair in anticipation for the Downton Abbey feature film and now we have our first amuse bouche of what to expect.

The movie will reunite us with the Crawley family and their staff who accompanied us for 6 years on television.

Now on a grander scale, the newly-released teaser trailer shows the staff readying the house as we are informed that we are cordially invited to attend the motion picture event next year.

Production on the Downton film began in September, with Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Joanne Froggatt, Jim Carter, and Maggie Smith all returning.

They will also be joined by Harry Potter actress Imelda Staunton and Tuppence Middleton of Sense8.

Hoorah!

Some of Britain’s finest acting stock is making its way to Downton.

With the film production of Downton Abbey set to start shooting very soon (and us still giddy with excitement!), we are thrilled to hear that Imelda Staunton has joined the cast.

It is not yet known whether the Harry Potter actress will be amongst the grand lords and ladies of the house which include Dowager Countess Maggie Smith, Lady Mary played by Michelle Dockery or the Earl of Grantham that is Hugh Bonneville; or below with the staff of Jim Carter who portrays Carlson (and is her real-life husband!), Phyllis Logan’s Mrs. Hughes, and lady’s maid Anna who is brought to Joanne Froggatt.

What we do know, however, is that Imelda will be joined by Geraldine James from Sherlock Holmes, Sense8 actress Tuppence Middleton, Killing Eve actor David Haig, Peaky Blinders star Kate Phillips, and Stephen Campbell Moore of The Last Poet.

Sounds like a rather grand dinner party!

Top up the Pimms, because we’re heading back to Downton!

Almost 3 years after the series ended, Downton Abbey will be returning — in feature film form!

The period piece followed the lives of the upper-class Crawley family, as well as that of their house staff.

The promise of a movie had long been in the air, but producers have now confirmed that production will begin in September.

Even better news is that the principal cast is all on board, meaning that Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Joanne Froggatt, Hugh Bonneville, and many others will once again be putting on their period pieces.

Both Michelle Dockery and Joanne Froggatt celebrated the announcement:

The film is set to be directed by Brian Percival who directed the original pilot, while series creator, Julian Fellowes, has written the screenplay.

Carnival Films executive chairman, Gareth Neame, has said, “When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production. Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as ‘Downton’ comes to the big screen”.

To paraphrase the Dowager Countess, we cannot find the words to say how excited we feel.
