Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal have been friends practically since the day they were born (Gael claims that his mother took his 1-year-old self to see Diego in the hospital just two days after he was born) and became besties whilst working together on Y Tu Mama Tambien in 2001.

In 2005, the pair established production company Canana Film with fellow actor Pablo Cruz.

Canana confirmed last week that Gael and Diego had stepped down from the company (which would continue to operate under Cruz and Arturo Sampson) but failed to mention the reason behind the split.

Now, the Coco actor and soon-to-be Narcos star have announced the launch of La Corriente del Golfo (Gulf Stream Films) which will focus on film, television, and community projects.

First up is political series Aqui en la Tierra, created by Gael and Kyzza Terrazas, followed by Chicuarotes, which is the second feature film directed by the actor.

“Through this company, we will undertake all projects with a sense of shared friendship and the strong impetus to better the world in which we live,” Gael Garcia Bernal said.

And a fine job they’re doing.
