The Golden Globes kick off festivities every year, with this year’s ceremony taking place even earlier than usual on January 5. The Beverley Hills Hilton will be the venue for the glitzy event, which is often regarded as an office party, where everyone gets a little tipsy thanks to the bottles of booze on the tables. 

Ricky Gervais will be returning to hosting duties, even though he swore he never would (he promises that this is definitely his last time…), but the night is renowned for having various celebrities grace the stage to present awards. 

This year’s batch is set to include Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Tiffany Haddish, Charlize Theron, Will Ferrell, Tim Allen, Christian Bale, Antonio Banderas, Jason Bateman, Cate Blanchett, Matt Bomer, Pierce Brosnan, Glenn Close, Daniel Craig, Ted Danson, Ansel Elgort, Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Lauren Graham, Kit Harington, Salma Hayek, Scarlett Johansson, Elton John, Nick Jonas, Zoe Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, Rami Malek, Kate McKinnon, Jason Momoa, Helen Mirren, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Poehler, Margot Robbie, Paul Rudd, Wesley Snipes, Octavia Spencer, Sofia Vergara, Kerry Washington, Naomi Watts, and Rachel Weisz.

The film will be directed by Inglorious Basterds star Melanie Laurent from a script by Dana Stevens. The story follows two sisters, played by Dakota and Elle Fanning, coming of age in France on the eve of World War II and their struggle to survive and resist the German occupation of France. 

“The Nightingale will be the first time we act on screen together. We have played the same character at different ages but have never spoken to each other in front of a camera. For years, we have looked for a film to do with one another and then this gem appeared,” the Fannings said Wednesday in a joint statement. “As sisters, to share our artistry with each other while bringing such a powerful sister story to life is a dream come true. We are so lucky to have our fearless director, Melanie Laurent, to guide us along on the journey. Let’s do this, sister!!”

Elle most recently starred in Disney’s Maleficent sequel, while Dakota was last seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
