Benedict Cumberbatch and Colin Firth will be doing the time warp.

The pair have been cast in the forthcoming film by Sam Mendes that will be set amidst World War I.

As the title 1917 indicates, the film will take place during the height of the war and focus on the events of a single day.

The Spectre director also wrote the script for the drama with Krysty Wilson-Cairns and will produce alongside Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners through its DreamWorks Pictures brand.

Captain Fantastic actor, George MacKay, and Dean-Charles Cahapman of Game of Thrones will star as two young British soldiers amongst the cast of Cumberbatch, Firth, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, and Richard Madden.

1917 will start shooting on 1 April in locations in England and Scotland, with a limited release set for 25 December before receiving a wide release two weeks later on 10 January 2020.

All the King’s horses and all the King’s men are being announced.

Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, and Mark Strong starred in Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle, which follows the secret spy organization from the comic book series by Mark Millar.

While a third film is being filmed at this end of this year (sadly, without Egerton), a prequel is also in the works.

Daniel Bruhl, Charles Dance, Matthew Goode, Rhys Ifans, Djimon Hounsou, Ralph Fiennes, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, and Alison Steadman have already been cast and will now be joined by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Gemma Arterton.

Dickinson and Fiennes will star as the protégé and mentor, while Hollander will feature in several roles.

The film, like its predecessors, will be directed by Michael Vaughan.
