Ever since the beginning of this year’s awards season, Nomadland cemented its status as one of the front-runners and it was expected to walk away with several trophies come Oscar night. Its triumph at the Academy Awards was as brilliant as expected, and it eventually collected a total of three awards.

Nomadland was crowned as the biggest winner of the night when it walked away with the best picture Oscar, but this wasn’t its only big victory. Chloé Zhao became the first woman of color and only the second female filmmaker to win the best director award, while Frances McDormand collected her third best actress Oscar.

Zhao and McDormand weren’t the only ones making history at this year’s Oscars. Anthony Hopkins picked up the best actor trophy for his performance in The Father, becoming the oldest winner in this category. Youn Yuh-jung (Minari) made history as the first Korean woman to win the Oscar for the best-supporting actress, while Daniel Kaluuya won the best-supporting actor award for his portrayal of Fred Hampton in Judas and the Black Messiah.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Sound of Metal, Soul, and Mank were also amongst the major winners, with two trophies each, mostly in technical categories. Emerald Fennell also had a reason to celebrate after picking up the Oscar for the best original screenplay for Promising Young Woman, while Thomas Vinterberg’s Another Round was crowned as the best international feature film.

The 93rd Academy Awards aired from Union Station and Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on April 25th.

The cast of the upcoming Marvel film was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con, where the 4th Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was also revealed.

Phase 3 ended with the events of The Avengers: Endgame, after 11 years and 23 movies.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige brought on stage the cast of The Eternals, which tells the story of a group of extremely powerful immortal beings who were created to defend Earth. That said, Thanos was one of them.

Amongst the line-up of stars who will be appearing in the movie is Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden. The pair will play Thena and Ikaris.

Joining them will be Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh, and Don Lee.

“This movie will allow those who have never felt represented in movies, in this case superheroes, to be represented. I love my diverse family,” Hayek said.

The Eternals is due to hit cinemas on November 6th, 2020.

The Eternals is based on the 1976 comic book series created by Jack Kirby. It follows two groups of super-powered and near-immortal beings created by the Celestials — one being the Eternals, and the other being their villainous offshoot, the Deviants.

According to The Hollywood Repoter, Jolie will play Sersi, an outgoing Eternal who is not afraid to move amongst humankind. Details about what character Nanjiani would play are being kept under wraps.

The feature will be directed by Chloe Zhao from a script drafted by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. It is one of two features that Marvel is planning on shooting this year.

Before the Oscar-nominated comedian makes his first foray into the realm of superheroes, you can see him next in Columbia Pictures’ Men in Black: International and Universal Pictures’ The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.
