“Of course, it was a great pleasure to work with Timothée Chalamet, Armie Hammer, Michael Stuhlbarg, Esther Garrel and the other actors. Everyone will be in the new movie,” Guadagnino told La Repubblica. 

Call Me by Your Name took place in 1980s Italy and followed 17-year-old Elio Perlman (Chalamet), a student living with his parents, who falls in love with Oliver (Armie Hammer), a graduate student working for Elio’s father (Stuhlbarg). Throughout the summer the two grow closer, but Oliver moves back to the United States at the end of the summer and breaks off the relationship.

The work on the film has been on hold due to the coronavirus.

Call Me by Your Name earned four Oscar nominations, including best picture and best actor for Chalamet. Writer James Ivory won the award for best-adapted screenplay.

Director of the film, Luca Guadagnino, has said, “I’m already conceiving the story with André Aciman, and it’s gonna happen five or six years afterward, so almost in 1990. It’s gonna be a new movie, a different tone. You’ll see a lot of the East Coast of America – they’re going to go around the world.”

Part of what made the original so beloved was the performances of actors, Timothee Chalamet, and Armie Hammer, who were both nominated for an Oscar for their roles as Elio and Oliver, respectively.

The even better news is that the pair is likely to reprise their roles, with Armie telling IndieWire, “He broke down the whole script for us. I mean, it’s not a finished script, but he’s got all the ideas for it. Luca’s all gung-ho about it, and by the way, if Luca’s doing it, I think we’re all gung-ho about it.”

Although the film probably won’t be out before 2021, we can’t wait to hear what name it will be called.
