Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel are set to return in a five-part miniseries from Boom! Studios.

It has been a while since we last saw our favorite vampire slayer and her brooding vampire lover, Angel, on the small screen. The final season of Buffy wrapped up in 2003 and the Angel finale followed in 2004.

Now, over 15 years later, the characters of the Buffyverse will return for a five-part mini-series in comic book form. The series, titled Hellmouth, is courtesy of Boom! Studios, which created the best-selling comic book reboots of the shows.

The illustrations in the comic books are based on the Joss Whedon cast, and so we’ll get to once again see Sarah Michelle Gellar, James Masters, and the rest of the OG Buffy cast.

The story also promises to bring new twists. Xander, for example, will return as a vampire…

The first issue of Hellmouth will hit the stores on October 9th.

A whole new Buffy the Vampire Slayer is coming your way.

Ahead of the TV reboot, fans will be treated to a new comic book reboot. The entirely separate comics was announced by Boom! Studios, who acquired the comic book and graphic novel rights just last week.

The news was announced by the studios at New York Comic-Con.

The creative team includes writer Jordie Bellaire with Dan Mora in charge of art. Original series creator, Joss Whedon is also involved in the project, as “story consultant,” according to Boom!

The new Buffy series will “reimagine the groundbreaking pop culture phenomenon from the very beginning.”

“The world of Buffy The Vampire Slayer has been so richly developed over the last twenty years, so when it came time for us to decide where to take the franchise under Joss’ guidance, there was only one answer in our minds — reimagining the story of Buffy and the Gang for a new generation,” Boom! executive editor Jeanine Schaefer said in a statement. “The world right now is scarier than it’s ever been; placing these characters firmly in 2019, we can use the themes that were so integral to the show — identity, agency, and empathy — to examine our world and the heroes and monsters that lurk inside all of us … and punch those monsters right in the face.”

Buffy has brought my life so much joy and to be part of that now is ridiculously overwhelming on many levels,” Bellaire added.“My very favorite aspect of Buffy is how we have a wide group of characters that love each other, hurt each other and sometimes, they even kill each other. I can’t wait to dabble within that universe to find new stories, explore older ones and forever maintain the theme of self-discovery and growing up, whatever that means.”

The new series will launch January 9, 2019
