Blade Runner 2049 isn’t the biggest hit at the box office, but that’s not really surprising. The numbers for the original 1982 movie show that it also underperformed at the box office.

As Reuters reports, the sequel starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford earned $31.5 million in the U.S., which is $20 million less than expected.

The biggest factor for the underperformance is the running time. With 163 minutes on-screen plot, the number of possible screenings in a day was limited.  Another big factor was the lack of cultural cache the franchise has among the young audience.
