The school is the scene of 13 Reasons Why, which is set to embark on its third season this month.

The Netflix show’s first season uncovered the reasons why Hannah Baker took her own life, revealed on thirteen cassette tapes.

Now, another student has committed suicide as the third season’s trailer has shown. The victim, this time, is jock Bryce Walker.

The official description for season 3 reads as follows:

“Eight months after preventing Tyler from committing an unthinkable act at Spring Fling, Clay, Tony, Jessica, Alex, Justin and Zach find ways to shoulder the burden of the cover-up together while helping Tyler move toward recovery. But when the aftermath of a tumultuous Homecoming game culminates in the disappearance of a football player, and Clay finds himself under police scrutiny, it’s up to a shrewd outsider to steer the group through an investigation that threatens to lay bare everyone’s deepest secrets. The stakes are raised in this riveting third season of 13 Reasons Why, as the consequences of even the most well-intended actions can alter a life forever.”

According to TheWrap, a fourth season has also been confirmed, which will be the show’s final and will see the core cast’s graduation.

The third season of 13 Reasons Why will premiere on Netflix on August 23rd.

The streaming giant dropped the second season of 13 Reasons Why mid-May to mixed reviews, however, that doesn’t mean they’re not already thinking the possibility of a third installment. 

When asked if viewers should expect a third season, executive producer Mandy Teefey told ET, “I don’t know! That’s a question that I can’t really talk about, to be honest, because there are so many places for it to go, I think, And I think Brian [Yorkey], it’s mustered in his brain, so I definitely feel like we can always explore more. But I don’t know.”

But it looks like leaving the door open for another season is definitely on the table for Yorkey who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter just before season two premiered saying there’s more to be told. 

“I always think there’s more story to tell, but I think that depends on viewers and everyone’s reaction to it and whether it’s important to keep telling the story.”

Season two was all about the fallout from Hannah’s suicide (Katherine Langford). For many characters season two was really where their own stories began. 

“To leave them there would be unfair to the characters and to the viewers that had come to care about them,” Yorkey said, “we explore how these characters deal with the aftermath of what happened to Hannah.”

But when it comes to the character of Hanna, Teefey is just not sure.

“Personally, as someone who thinks creatively, I feel it would be forced,” Teefey explains. “But Katherine is so amazing. If we want to do storytelling, I don’t know where it wouldn’t feel forced. And she’s going to be fine! We couldn’t have been more lucky to have had her.”

Is an anthology the future of the show? “If there is a future for the show, to me, it’s about these characters and not necessarily a new set of reasons or a new set of tapes. Someone else might do that, but that’s not my job to do that,” Yorkey explained.

The first season of the hit show based on the Jay Asher novel followed Clay Jensen as he listened to a series of tapes left by his friend Hannah Baker, explaining the reasons why she decided to take her own life.

Many were left wondering just where the story could go after the initial 13 episodes, but Netflix has now given us a sneak peak.

The season 2 trailer shows Hannah’s mother, Olivia (played by Kate Walsh), continuing to take matters into her own hands by playing detective, while Hannah’s former classmates are being threatened by anonymous notes which state “you talk, you pay.”

Eeek.

Season 2 hits Netflix on the 18th of May and we definitely don’t need 13 reasons to tune in.
